Yawn.

My boy's teething seems to be affecting his sleep somewhat. Yesterday and the day before he woke up briefly in the wee hours and needed a bit of consoling before going back to sleep, and the last week or so he's gone from 2-3 hour naps to 1 1/2-2 hour naps. Not so nice when I'm trying to cram an hour run, lunch and a shower into his nap time. Sigh. Other than that, though, he is wonderful. He didn't even need to be wrestled into his stroller today. We discovered a new park close to home today and he enjoyed climbing over the barrier between the paved walkway and the bark play area. I only had to remove two inedible tree berries and one piece of bark from his mouth, so I consider the trip an overall success.

My son has been working on getting his eyeteeth for the last few weeks. One little point has emerged, and at least one more is on its way. I haven't been able to see the other side of his mouth for at least a week; he won't show me or let me poke around in there. Thank goodness he'll at least humor me by chewing on his toothbrush a couple times a day. It seems to be affecting his naps lately. Luckily it doesn't seem to be hurting his overnight sleep, but where he used to have at least 2 hour naps, the last two days have been more like an hour and a half. Ugh. Oh, and I have had to wrestle him into his stroller the last two days for the walks that we take every day. He has been walked in that stroller for a year with no issues until now. I really hope it's just a passing phase and the wrestling will not become part of our routine!

Re-Entry

I think today began the boy's readjustment period to just having me around the house instead of having lots of adoring relatives at his beck and call. Either that, or teeth emerging, or both, contributed to many periods of crying and clinginess today. Whew.

On the plus side, my experiment of moving away from having the TV on for white noise all day seems to have been a success...my concern is that the boy doesn't talk as much when there is more noise, and because he isn't saying a lot of words, I want him to practice more. He did seem to talk more when he wasn't being super clingy, so I will continue that trial.

Dear readers,

I tried to assure you that I am neither grading nor ranking submissions for the Poetry Challenge; it is just for fun...perhaps that is not your idea of fun? I'm going to look silly if I am issuing weekly challenges in which no one participates...

I am going to keep this short because my lovely mother is in town for a brief visit. I'd appreciate positive thoughts for my son, who is definitely not feeling himself for the last 24 hours...not sure if it's teething or something else right now.

Winter "break"

Well, I've survived the fall quarter classes I have been slaving over, and am currently trying to motivate myself/ psych myself up to write my two papers for said classes. You can judge how well that is going by my posting a blog instead. Even after I turn those papers in (which I hope to do by the end of next week), I will still have some work to do; I need to produce a 10-item annotated bibliography for my master's thesis by the time winter quarter starts, all too soon after New Year's. 

Also fast approaching is my little one's first birthday. I can't believe I already have a 10 month old. This year has gone incredibly fast. We are currently waiting for the latest batch of teeth to appear, patiently wiping a runny nose and drooly mouth and comforting sensitive nerves. I just hate seeing my baby in so much pain. I guess this is why our teeth come in so early; at least we don't remember how uncomfortable it was.

I just thought I'd check in. I'm not feeling terribly inspired to write anything creative today; maybe after I am done with my papers. Until then.
